Oliver Burkhard has been appointed CEO of Marine Systems on May 1, 2022.
Career:
Following his apprenticeship as a public administration clerk from 1988 to 1991, Oliver Burkhard worked in the National Accounts department of the German Federal Statistical Office from 1991 to 1997. From 1993 to 1998 he also studied business administration at Mainz University of Applied Sciences in parallel with his work.
In 1997 Oliver Burkhard moved to the IG Metall metalworkers’ trade union, where he was, inter alia, Political Secretary on the Federal Executive Committee. From 2002 to 2004 he was District Secretary/Secretary for Collective Bargaining at IG Metall in North Rhine-Westphalia, before returning to the IG Metall Federal Executive Committee in 2005 as head of the collective bargaining policy department. At the end of 2007 Oliver Burkhard became the youngest-ever District Manager of IG Metall´s largest district in North Rhine-Westphalia.
He has been a member of the Executive Board and CHRO of thyssenkrupp AG since 2013. In this function he has company-wide responsibility for Human Resources and the management of the service companies.
On May 1, 2022 Oliver Burkhard was appointed CEO of thyssenkrupp Marine Systems - in addition to his duties as Member of the Executive Board of thyssenkrupp AG. He also continues to be responsible for the service companies and the South America region at corporate level.
Oliver Burkhard is also active in various honorary positions. For example, he is a member of the board of the Hans Böckler Foundation and on the extended executive committee of the Economic Forum of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), a member of the Latin America Committee of German Economy (LADW) and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the HR services company PEAG Holding GmbH.
